Individual Land Surveyor Registration

Application Instructions

• All applicants for PLS Registrations must apply online.
• Please click on the link in the blue button below to start your application process.
• An NCEES Record is strongly recommended for expedited review application review.
• If you do not have an NCEES Record, you must complete the supplemental forms below. 

Do not apply until all statutory requirements have been met. The requirements for registration are outlined on the Categories page. 



NOTE: Rhode Island no longer issues LSIT certificates. 

You can go directly to NCEES to register for the FS exam.

At this time, applicants for initial PLS Registration must apply to the RI PLS Board prior to taking the PS exam.

Apply for an Individual Land Surveyor Registration

Supplemental documentation is required to complete your application. 

NCEES Record (strongly recommended for expedited application review)

• Please ensure that your NCEES Record is complete.
• Complete NCEES Records include:
  • FS Exam and PS Exam Scores;
  • All transcripts;
  • Required references; AND
  • Employment verifications.
• Contact NCEES and request transmission of your NCEES Record to the RI PLS Board.
• If applying under Categories 3, 4 or 5, you must also complete the PLS Core Curriculum form available under the Supplemental forms heading below. 

OR

No NCEES Record: Supplemental Forms and Documentation are required:

• Official Transcript(s);
• Experience Verification Form;
• General Reference Form (for both personal and professional references); 
• Exam/Registration Verification Form; AND
• If applying under Categories 3, 4 or 5, you must also complete the PLS Core Curriculum form available under the Supplemental forms heading below. 

Instructions for sending Supplemental Forms to the Department

• All required supplemental forms must be enclosed in individual sealed envelopes and submitted as one complete package to the Department.
• Include a cover letter summarizing the enclosed materials with your complete application package.  
• Should a state board or school require transmission directly to the Department, please instruct the entity submit the form to dbr.designprof@dbr.ri.gov or to the address below.
  • If this occurs, notify the Department in your cover letter.

Failure to transmit a complete NCEES Record or all required supplemental forms will delay the processing of your application.
